Gateway to Honors

Coming into my freshman year of college, I knew almost nothing about the honors program. I knew that through some twist of events I had gotten myself enrolled in it, and that I had to take a class because of it. This class turned out to be Gateway to University Honors, a one credit-hour class that meets once a week for an hour. Gateway taught me all about the UC Honors program, from the perks of being an honors scholar to tips on success in the program.

I was required to take the course, but I feel that it helped me. As someone who hardly knew anything about the University Honors program, I was ignorant of the policies and requirements to graduate with honors, and the easiest way to fulfil those requirements. The class exceeded my expectations, because it also stressed positive thinking and setting goals. University Honors is much different from my high school honors program, which was largely grade-based.

The lessons I’ve learned in Gateway will help me graduate with Honors, in addition to the many other perks that honors students receive. In the long run, however, I’ll hopefully be able to use the critical thinking and time management skills to my advantage in the professional world. Also, building a website here helped prepare me for building a website for my online scenic design portfolio..
